A MONDO™ drumhead is defined by its construction style. These heads feature a straight-wall ACOUSTICON™ construction. Mondo heads are stronger, more durable and available in varying degrees of thickness from lightweight (resembling goat skin) to heavy (resembling mule or cowhide). Unlike animal skin, these heads are resilient to variations in weather and climate, making them easy to tune and play in any condition

The chart below will help you get better acquainted with the Remo MONDO™ drumhead types

Type 1

Type 1 heads are made with FIBERSKYN® 3 and fit Remo’s Djun-Djuns, Gathering drums, and Arthur Hull’s Nesting drums. These heads feature a straight-wall ACOUSTICON™ construction in order to easily fit larger drums. Type 1 heads are pretuned and designed with a thumb-sized notch on each side so they can also be used independently as hand drums.

Type 2

Type 2 heads come in either NUSKYN™ or FIBERSKYN® 3 for different instruments. Both heads come with a high collar and utilize a straight-wall ACOUSTICON™ construction with a ½" support rim around the outside bottom for mounting with a tension ring (traditional flesh hoop.) Type 2 NUSKYN™ heads fit key-tuned Djun-Djuns, tunable Tubanos, and Remo’s Coffee House drum. FIBERSKYN® 3 Type 2 heads fit Klong Yaws, key-tuned Djembes, Ashikos and the MONDO snare drum.

Type 3

Type 3 heads are FIBERSKYN® 3 heads that fit Bombos, rope-tuned Djun-Djuns, and pretuned Tubanos. They feature a straight-wall ACOUSTICON™ construction with a low collar and feature a ½" support rim built around the outside bottom of the head for mounting with a tension ring (traditional flesh hoop.)

History

In 1992 the MONDO™ drumhead introduced a new era of innovative drumhead manufacturing, increasing the possibilities for Remo World Percussion. Mondo (Italian for “world”) drumheads are created using PTS® (Pre-Tuned System) technology which was created in 1980. This ground braking innovation advanced the world percussion manufacturing possibilities decades ahead of the drum industry.
